Foundation Stone Laid for Shastri Market Redevelopment
Gulab Chand Kataria, who is the UT Administrator and Punjab Governor, recently laid the foundation stone of the project. The project is an action that shows the vision of the administration in transforming old markets and making them in line with the aim of developing smart cities.
The government stressed the fact that Shastri Market is not only a business centre but also an essential element of the Chandigarh social and cultural life, with thousands of customers coming to shop there daily.
Key Upgrades Planned at Shastri Market
The redevelopment will introduce several smart and eco-friendly features, including:

- 100–150 CCTV cameras for enhanced security

Structural Improvements for Shops
As part of the makeover, shop floors will be raised by approximately three feet, and roof heights will be increased to improve ventilation and safety standards.
The entire market will feature solar-powered lighting, supporting Chandigarh’s commitment to green and sustainable urban development.
