The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, officially opened its new academic session 2026 in the NINE Auditorium, inducting almost 350 resident doctors from the July 2025 and January 2026 batches, with Dean (Academics) Dr. R.K. Ratho administering their swearing-in.
An uplifting speech on gender equality, resilience, and empowerment marked the first ceremony, setting the tone for the new academic year.
Ajeet Bajaj and Deeya Bajaj Inspire Young Doctors
Padma Shri Ajeet Bajaj, a famous mountaineer, adventurer and inspirational speaker, who was the Chief Guest and his daughter Deeya Bajaj, a successful mountaineer attended the event as the Guest of Honour.
Together, Ajeet Bajaj and Deeya Bajaj hold the rare distinction of being the first Asian father-daughter duo to complete the Seven Summits, including Mount Everest, making their presence especially inspiring for the young medical professionals.
Support Girls, Tell Them There Is Nothing They Cannot Achieve
During her presentation to the audience, Deeya Bajaj presented this powerful message about women empowerment especially when she talked about the need to support girls at a tender age. She emphasized how when girls are fed, motivated and provided with no form of discrimination, there are no boundaries to what girls can accomplish.
She emphasized that people should actively support women, explaining that empowering women is not just talking but creating real opportunities.. Deeya also gave her personal account of how she had scaled Mount Everest with her father, and how she inspired the audience with narrations of perseverance, cooperation and faith.
Responsibility of the Medical Profession
The speaker on the occasion was the Director of PGIMER, Dr. Vivek Lal, and he reminded the newly inducted doctors of how big a responsibility it is to wear a white coat. He referred to medical professionals as the white coat paratroopers who bring hope, care and healing to the society.
Dr. Lal motivated the residents that people should never forget how much they trust doctors and treat their work with compassion, integrity and devotion.

The opening of the academic session 2026 of the PGIMER was a formal induction as well as an inspirational start of the future healthcare leaders of India. This combination of medical perfection, social responsiveness, and lessons of strong life made the event very memorable.
